The consulting Chief Information Officer's primary role is to develop and maintain business relationships with clients in order to strategically plan and combine the client’s technology alignment needs with their business goals. Providing planning, budgeting, and strategic direction to clients are all key functions in this role. CIOs are responsible for gaining knowledge of their clients’ business use of technology. In addition to maintaining client relationships, in order to be effective CIOs must collaborate and maintain excellent rapport with all of the service delivery areas including Support and Professional Services.
